2023 Contest Standings

Welcome!

Recovery is still slow going after the effects of Hurricane Idalia. (Hurricanes are always annoying.)

We have no trophy, no preseason top 10, a mashed up Bio page that is still under construction, but we are starting a new season!

Week 1 Results

The mistake-riddled performance in the first half had us all concerned. However, the offensive explosion in the second half pushed Eric "I knew we would win all along" Shaw to the early Contest leading with an 11-point pick.

The six dollar Hat prize went to Dave "Famous Dave" Berry.

Week 2 Results

Mr. Yarbrough's prediction of a rout served him well. It is a good year to be an optimist. Hopefully, our high level of play will continue in the ACC games.

The five dollar Hat prize went to Tom "No, not that Tom, another Tom" Seale.

Week 3 Results

Sheesh, your Humble Scorekeeper has to work on the weekend, and he leaves the team in your hands, and *this* is best you can do. Did the players read too much about how great they are? Did the loss of two injured starting offensive linemen hurt more than we realized? We have been dodging bullets with our mistakes and poor play every game this year, and this week we almost ruined our whole season.

Kevin "The Infernal Pessimist" did not pick against FSU, but he did give us the fewest points, so he scored the best pick of the week at 12. Will he run down the ramp with Dabo and touch the rock next week???

Despite the tough week, Scott "Yarbrough, not Brumage" hangs on to the overall lead.

Cynthia won the unreported prize in the Hat Contest.

Week 4 Results

Kevin "The Infernal Pessimist" suffered a roller coaster of emotions on Saturday. One again, he picked a relatively low scoring close game, and won the day with a 3-point pick. This moved him into first place ahead of Scott "The Far More Deserving" Yarbrough. But when Clemson's missed field goal sailed wide, did we detect a tear on his cheek as he mourned the program that he has rooted for over the past 10 years?

Mark "Big Money" Friedemann did a fine job of hosting the game and kept the six buck Hat Prize.

Week 5 Results

Kevin "Clemson" Convery and Eric "Maryland" Shaw had identical 1-point picks to lead the pack this week. It was Mr. Shaw's second win of the season and Mr. Convery's third straight win. "This is an obvious case of collusion! I demand an investigation!" cried Mark "Conspiracy Theory" Friedemann.

The situation became even more suspicious when Mr. Convery claimed the six dollar Hat prize with a 4-point pick.

Week 6 Results

Like that rogue who hangs out in the rear of the party during a fight until you almost forget about him, and then *WHAM!* he backstabs the bad guy, so did Tom "Sneak Attack" Lawery leap out of last place and win the week with a nice 10-point pick. That was Mr. Lawery's first win of the season. Your Humble Scorekeeper humbly wonders when his own first win will occur.

As a result Eric "Chasing Butterflies" Shaw moved back into first place. Last week Mr. Shaw and Mr. Convery tied for the best pick. This week, neither showed up to watch the game. Are Kevin's bad habits rubbing off on Eric?? The concerned public wants to know.

Mark "Host with the Most" Friedemann and CC did a great job hosting, so they deserved taking the $5 hat pick.

Week 7 Results

This is not the good old Duke that we all remember. They gave us a heck of a game for three quarters, but I think our depth at the skill positions finally wore them down.

Kevin "The Haberdasher" Convery made another tie to win the week. This time, he and "Merciless" Mark Friedemann scored 3-point picks. However, Mr. Friedemann still wants the head of all the referees as well as our defensive coordinator.

Amazingly, that leaves Eric "Papillon" clinging to first place by one point.

The big news of the week is that your Humble Scorekeeper hit the exact score of the Hat Contest and returned home with a hard earned six bucks.

Week 8 Results

Kevin "Everybody Loves Kevin... NOT" Convery won his astonishing fifth game of the year with a nifty 4 point pick. Perhaps fittingly for the Halloween season, this win slides the Contest lead back into his evil clutches.

This leaves Eric "The Butterfly Whisperer" Shaw in second place, but he consoled himself with a hefty six dollar Hat Contest prize.

Week 9 Results

So, I was at Scott "Not a Member of this Contest" Brumage's retirement party tonight, and Kevin "The Modest" Convery was bragging that he would win the Contest this year. However, Eric "The Absent" Shaw earned a 16-point pick and pulled within a whisker of the overall lead! This was Mr. Shaw's third win of the year.

So, what kind of world do we live in where Eric's conservative, low-scoring pick beats Kevin's higher-scoring, optimistic pick??

Unconcerned with all the drama, Dave "Dialing for Dollars" Berry phoned in the winning four dollar Hat pick, his second win of the year.

Week 10 Results

Good won out over Evil.

You might think that would make Kevin "More Evil than Evil" Convery unhappy, but instead, he scored another win with a 5-point pick. We all know he is cheating. We just can't figure out how.

That leaves Mr. Convery in first place with Eric "Woof!" Shaw still dogging his heels.

Mark "Moolah" Friedemann claimed the Hat Prize in a close contest with a 6-point pick.

Week 11 Results

It's all about the Humble.

Your Scorekeeper won for the first time this year with a stirling 5-point pick. In less important news, Eric "Boomerang" Shaw bounced back ahead of Kevin "The Kevil" Convery to take a slim lead going into the final game of the regular season.

Your Scorekeeper also won the Hat for the second time this year and pocketed the five dollar grand prize.

Our hearts go out to Jordan Travis this week. The team still has very big games coming up. We are not going to give up on this season because, remember...

Week 12 Results

Let's keep this in perspective. We beat the Gators, and it is Good.

Eric "Kangaroo" Shaw fought the whole year and was knocked out of first on a tough pick for the final game. Congratulations for a competitive effort; it is Good. Mr. Shaw can at least console himself with the Hat Contest prize.

Your Scorekeeper and Dave "Pet Master" Berry hung around close the whole season and jumped into a tie for second to end the year. The Humble One had his second win in a row under 6 points. It is Good.

And that brings us to Kevin "Killjoy" Convery. He made his astonishing sixth pick of 5 points or less and jumped back into the lead. It was... it was... well, it was unfortunate, but I have triple checked the numbers, and I can't find a way out of crowning Kevin the king of 2023. The only problem is that we don't have a trophy to engave his name into.

Thank you everyone for playing, and good luck to the Noles against Louisville.

Week 12 Correction! - Scandal Strikes the Prediction Contest!

I don't know if it more shocking that I used the wrong score for the Florida game or that no one noticed it. I somehow used the 27-20 FSU-Miami score in the standings for the FSU-UF game.

I have applied the proper 24-15 score. It affected most of the players the same by adding 8 points to their total. The only difference is that Mark "Minimalist" Friedemann picked a low-scoring game and won the week. This also moves Mr. Friedemann into second place overall.

Unfortunately, it still leaves Old What's-his-name in first place.

Bonus Coverage!

So.... bowl season is coming up, and you are wondering how FSU is going to do??

Don't worry about figuring it out. Let Eric Shaw tell you how it will all work out!

ACC Championship Game: FSU 28, Clemson 27.

Well, it's not our fault that Clemson did not meet us there.

Bowl Game: FSU 31, Southern Cal Trojans 28.

Hmmm, did we schedule a game with USC that I did not hear about?

National Championship: FSU 35, Michigan 31.

Now that might have been correct if not for certain infamous dealings by the selection committee.

Nice job, Eric!
